Ghana Police Arrest 10 Suspects Over Alleged Internet Fraud Operation in Greater Accra
The Ghana Police Service has arrested 10 suspects in connection with an alleged internet fraud operation following an intelligence-led raid at Mataheko-Afienya in the Greater Accra Region.
According to the Police, the suspects were apprehended at an apartment believed to have been used as a base for carrying out fraudulent online activities.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were allegedly recruited and brought into Ghana from Nigeria by a Nigerian national, who is suspected to have coordinated and supervised the group’s operations. Police say the individual also provided accommodation for the suspects while they carried out the alleged cybercrime activities.
The intelligence-led operation forms part of the Ghana Police Service’s ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime and other forms of organized criminal activity across the country.
The 10 suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to locate and arrest the suspected mastermind behind the operation.
Police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that anyone found to have played a role in the alleged fraud network will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Ghana Police Service has also urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious online activities as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle criminal syndicates involved in internet fraud.
