The Ghana Police Service says Harold Norman, the husband of Ghanaian fashion personality Nana Akua Addo, is expected to appear before court once he is discharged from hospital, following an ongoing investigation into alleged domestic abuse.

The development follows a petition Nana Akua Addo submitted to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on August 20, in which she reportedly accused her husband of physical, emotional and economic abuse. Police say their preliminary checks also revealed that the couple had previously come to the attention of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in July.

According to the Police, investigators arrested Norman at his residence on August 27 to assist with the case. He subsequently provided a caution statement and was released on police enquiry bail with two sureties while investigations continued.

Norman was expected in court on Wednesday, October 7, but police say his lawyer informed them that he had been admitted to hospital and could therefore not attend the proceedings. DOVVSU officers have since visited the hospital to verify his condition, while investigators continue monitoring the situation ahead of his eventual court appearance.

The case gained renewed public attention after videos and images circulated online showing Nana Akua Addo with what appeared to be injuries. Police have urged the public to allow the investigative process to take its course, while the CID and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection are working to provide social welfare support to Nana Akua Addo and her children.

The allegations remain subject to investigation and any eventual court proceedings. The police have also reiterated their commitment to handling the matter professionally and fairly.
