New CT Scanners Transform Security Screening at Accra International Airport
Passengers travelling through the Accra International Airport are set to enjoy a faster and more convenient security screening experience following the installation of advanced Analogic Computed Tomography (CT) scanners by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
The new technology is expected to significantly improve security while reducing passenger wait times and speeding up the screening process at security checkpoints.
Speaking on the new system, the Manager of Airport Aviation Security at GACL, Mr. Abdul-Issaka Bamba, provided an overview of how the state-of-the-art CT scanners operate. According to him, the equipment produces high-resolution three-dimensional images of luggage, allowing security personnel to examine the contents of bags more accurately without requiring passengers to remove many personal items.
The enhanced screening process is designed to improve efficiency while maintaining the highest international aviation security standards. The scanners enable security officers to detect potential threats more effectively, making the screening process both safer and quicker.
The procurement of the Analogic CT scanners was announced by President John Dramani Mahama during the launch of Ghana’s E-Visa System last year as part of broader efforts to modernise airport operations and improve passenger experience.
With the installation of the scanners, travellers can expect shorter queues at security checkpoints and a smoother journey through the airport. The technology is also expected to boost operational efficiency, helping airport authorities manage increasing passenger traffic more effectively.
The Ghana Airports Company Limited says the introduction of the advanced screening system reflects its commitment to enhancing aviation security while delivering world-class services to passengers using the country’s premier international airport.
