Two people have died while six others have sustained injuries following a serious road accident at Dr. Marbel Junction on the Accra–Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region.

The crash occurred on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, and involved a DAF truck, a Volkswagen Sprinter bus and a tricycle. The incident triggered an emergency response from personnel of the Suhum Municipal Fire Station.

Preliminary findings from the Ghana National Fire Service indicate that the DAF truck developed a brake problem while travelling along the highway. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the Sprinter bus, which subsequently struck the tricycle parked by the roadside. (Metro TV Online)

Firefighters had to use rescue equipment to free one victim who was trapped underneath the DAF truck. The injured victims were subsequently taken to the Suhum Government Hospital for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to the hospital.

The force of the collision left the tricycle completely wrecked, while both the truck and the Sprinter bus also suffered damage. Authorities are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Ghana National Fire Service has meanwhile urged motorists to take vehicle maintenance seriously, particularly the condition of their braking systems. Drivers have also been advised to exercise greater caution while traveling on major highways.
