Vehicles with DV Number Plates Cannot Be Used for Weddings – MTTD Officer Warns
An officer of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Oda has cautioned motorists against using vehicles bearing DV number plates for wedding ceremonies, stressing that such use is unlawful under Ghana’s vehicle registration regulations.
According to the officer, DV number plates are issued specifically for designated purposes and are not intended for private or commercial activities such as transporting wedding couples or serving as ceremonial vehicles during marriage celebrations.
The warning comes amid reports that some motorists have been using vehicles with DV registration plates as wedding convoy cars, a practice the MTTD says violates the regulations governing the use of such number plates.
The officer urged owners and users of DV-plated vehicles to familiarize themselves with the legal restrictions attached to the registration category and to ensure they comply with the law at all times.
He emphasized that the MTTD remains committed to enforcing road traffic regulations and will not hesitate to take action against individuals found misusing DV-plated vehicles. Motorists have therefore been advised to use appropriately registered vehicles for weddings and other private events to avoid possible sanctions.
The MTTD also encouraged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by adhering to vehicle registration rules, noting that compliance helps maintain order and accountability within Ghana’s road transport system.
