A tragic incident at Bokankye in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region has claimed the lives of two men after a tipper truck came into contact with a high-tension electricity line while offloading sand.
The victims, identified as the driver of the tipper truck and his mate, were carrying out routine work when disaster struck. According to reports, the truck’s bucket was raised during the unloading process and accidentally touched an overhead high-voltage power line.
The driver’s mate was reportedly electrocuted instantly after rushing to assist the driver following the initial contact with the live wire. Residents and bystanders who witnessed the incident described the scene as devastating and helpless, as the powerful electric current claimed both lives within moments.
The driver was quickly rushed to a nearby health facility for emergency treatment but was later pronounced dead by medical personnel due to the severity of his injuries.
Authorities were alerted to the incident, and police officers subsequently arrived at the scene to begin investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the mortuary of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for preservation and further examination.
The unfortunate event has renewed concerns over safety measures at construction and sand-winning sites, particularly in areas where heavy machinery operates close to electricity transmission lines. Residents have called for increased public education and stricter safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
