The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced an eight-hour power interruption in parts of the Ashanti Region today, Monday, August 24, 2026.
According to ECG, the outage is scheduled to run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to allow the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to continue upgrade works on the Anwomaso-Ridge transmission line.
The affected areas include parts of Atonsu, Kuwait, Naachia, Sawua and Aprabon, as well as surrounding communities.
The ongoing project involves replacing the existing 364MVA single-circuit transmission line with a double-circuit system with a combined capacity of 976MVA. The upgrade is expected to strengthen electricity transmission and improve the reliability and stability of power supply in Kumasi and other parts of the Ashanti Region.
ECG has apologised to customers who will be affected by the temporary interruption and appealed to residents and businesses to bear with the company while the infrastructure works are carried out.
The upgrade forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s electricity transmission infrastructure and address growing demand for power in the Ashanti Region. (Ghana Grid Company Ltd)
