A serious road crash at the Sofoline Interchange in Kumasi has left four people injured, including a one-and-a-half-year-old baby. The accident involved a commercial minibus, a Toyota Corolla and a motorised tricycle popularly known as a Pragia.
According to reports, the minibus was heading from Goaso towards Kejetia when the driver allegedly realised that the vehicle’s brakes had failed while coming down the flyover. His attempts to bring the bus under control were unsuccessful, resulting in the vehicle crashing into the Corolla and the Pragia ahead.
The minibus was reportedly carrying 13 passengers, but none of them was injured. The occupants of the Toyota Corolla also escaped without reported injuries, while the four people travelling in the Pragia, including the baby, suffered varying degrees of injury.
The injured victims were assisted by passersby and other motorists before being taken to Suntreso Government Hospital for treatment. The collision badly damaged all three vehicles and temporarily disrupted traffic along the busy Sofoline-Abuakwa stretch.
Police personnel from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department later moved to the scene to manage traffic and facilitate the removal of the damaged vehicles. Investigations have since begun into the crash and the reported brake failure.
