A heartbreaking tragedy has hit Apemanim No. 2 in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region after a fire swept through a family home in the early hours of Thursday.
The blaze reportedly started around 2am, trapping a 23-year-old man identified as Kwesi, his wife Maa Abena, their four-year-old child and a three-week-old newborn baby inside the house.
Residents who noticed the smoke rushed to the scene and attempted to put out the fire while trying to rescue those trapped inside. Sadly, their efforts could not save the family as the flames spread rapidly through the building.
An eyewitness recounted the terrifying moment residents tried different ways to gain access to the burning house, but the situation became too dangerous. The victims were eventually found after part of the structure gave way.
The bodies have since been taken to a mortuary, while authorities investigate to determine what caused the devastating fire.
