Afenyo-Markin Questions Third-Term Ambitions, Accuses Government of Underperformance
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has taken a swipe at the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), questioning what he describes as the government’s poor performance while warning against any suggestion of seeking a third term in office.
Speaking at a public event, Afenyo-Markin declared, “You are not performing, yet you say you want a third term. We are watching you with eagle eyes.” His remarks were directed at the current administration, which he accused of failing to deliver on its promises despite being in power.
The Effutu Member of Parliament argued that the government’s performance has fallen short of the expectations of Ghanaians, insisting that citizens are closely monitoring every decision and policy implemented by the administration.
According to him, calls or discussions about extending the government’s stay in office are premature when, in his view, the administration has yet to demonstrate significant achievements that justify such ambitions.
Afenyo-Markin stressed that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) would continue to hold the government accountable and scrutinize its actions to ensure transparency and good governance.
His comments add to the growing political exchanges between the NPP and the NDC, with both parties intensifying their rhetoric as national political debates continue over the government’s performance and future electoral prospects.
