Two suspected thieves have been arrested at Ga Odumase near Amasaman after a woman outsmarted them during an alleged theft attempt inside a commercial vehicle.
According to the victim, the incident occurred while she was traveling in a vehicle when one of the suspects, posing as an ordinary passenger, offered to pay her transport fare. The gesture initially appeared harmless and helped gain her trust.
Moments later, the passenger complained about feeling uncomfortable and requested assistance to adjust his seat. The driver allegedly supported the request and urged the woman to help the passenger.
While attempting to assist, the woman became suspicious after noticing the passenger discreetly hiding her handbag and removing cash from it. Realizing she was being distracted as part of a coordinated scheme, she immediately raised an alarm.
Her quick reaction attracted the attention of nearby residents and passersby, who rushed to the scene and helped apprehend the two suspects before they could escape.
The suspects were subsequently handed over to the police for further investigations. The incident has since sparked discussions among residents about the need for passengers to remain vigilant and cautious when traveling, especially when dealing with strangers who may employ distraction tactics to steal valuables.
Authorities are expected to continue investigations into the matter and determine whether the suspects may be linked to similar incidents reported in the area.
