A 40-year-old man has been reported missing after allegedly falling into an abandoned illegal mining (galamsey) pit while attempting to flee during a police operation at Kyebi in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region.

According to reports, the man was believed to be among a group of illegal miners operating in the area when police launched an operation to clamp down on illegal mining activities. In the course of the exercise, the miners reportedly took to their heels in an attempt to escape arrest.

During the chaos, the 40-year-old man is said to have accidentally fallen into an abandoned galamsey pit. Witnesses immediately raised the alarm, prompting rescue efforts at the scene.

Emergency responders and other personnel have since been working to locate the missing man. However, as of the latest updates, he has not been found, and the search operation remains ongoing.
