Veteran Ghanaian Actress Grace Nortey Dies at 89
Veteran Ghanaian actress Grace Nortey, widely recognised for her contribution to Ghana’s film and theatre industry, has died at the age of 89.
Reports indicate that the celebrated actress, popularly known as “Maame Gyata,” became ill on Tuesday and was taken to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for medical attention.
She reportedly passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Grace Nortey was regarded as one of the pioneering personalities in Ghana’s film and theatre industry, with a career that earned her recognition across generations of Ghanaian audiences.
Her death has therefore marked the loss of one of the veteran figures who contributed significantly to the development of Ghanaian entertainment.
