A tragic incident has been reported at Appeasuman in the Wassa East District after a footbridge reportedly collapsed on a tricycle, popularly known in Ghana as Aboboya, killing one person and leaving five others injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the Aboboya was crossing beneath or near the bridge when the structure suddenly gave way, crushing the vehicle and its occupants. Residents and emergency responders quickly rushed to the scene to rescue those trapped and transport the injured to nearby health facilities for urgent medical treatment.

One person was confirmed dead at the scene, while the five injured victims are currently receiving treatment. The identity of the deceased has not yet been officially released.

Authorities are expected to investigate the exact cause of the collapse, as concerns grow over the safety and maintenance of public infrastructure in the area.

Residents are now calling on government and local authorities to urgently inspect other bridges and public structures to prevent similar tragedies.
