Residents of Nyamebekyere in the Jomoro Municipal District have issued a two-week ultimatum to President John Dramani Mahama’s government to release compensation they claim was paid on their behalf following the demarcation of lands for the relocation of the Elubo border.

According to one of the affected residents, officials visited the community about two years ago and informed residents that the Elubo border would be moved to Jomoro as part of a border development project. The officials reportedly surveyed and demarcated lands and properties belonging to community members, assuring them that compensation would be paid for the affected properties.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, the individual alleged that although compensation funds were reportedly provided to the government by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the affected residents have not received any payments. The resident expressed frustration over the prolonged delay, saying many families have waited for years without any official explanation regarding the compensation.

“We are giving President Mahama two weeks to pay us the compensation that ECOWAS gave the government on our behalf. Two years ago, officials came here and informed us that the Elubo border would be moved to Jomoro. They demarcated our lands and properties, but the compensation they paid to the government for us has not been given to the affected residents,” the resident stated.

The residents are calling on the government and the relevant authorities to urgently address their concerns and ensure that any compensation due them is paid without further delay. They warn that failure to act within the two-week period could lead to further action as they seek justice over the alleged unpaid compensation.
