Government Pays GH¢10.8 Billion DDEP Coupon to Bondholders

The Government of Ghana has completed a GH¢10.8 billion payment to bondholders under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), fulfilling the latest coupon obligation to investors.

The payment is expected to strengthen confidence among holders of government bonds and reinforce the government’s commitment to meeting its obligations under the debt restructuring programme.

The DDEP was introduced as part of efforts to restructure Ghana’s domestic debt and restore the country’s fiscal stability. Since its implementation, the programme has remained a major component of government’s broader strategy to reduce debt pressures and improve public finances.

The latest payment also comes at a time when authorities are seeking to demonstrate progress in managing the country’s debt situation and restoring credibility in the domestic capital market. Meeting coupon obligations on schedule could help improve investor sentiment and provide greater certainty for bondholders.

The government’s ability to honour the GH¢10.8 billion obligation will therefore be closely watched as Ghana continues its economic recovery efforts. Further payments and developments under the DDEP are expected to remain important indicators of the country’s progress in dealing with its debt challenges.
