The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has issued a strong warning to individuals engaged in illegal sand winning, declaring that anyone who continues the practice will face the full force of the law. The warning comes in the aftermath of recent floods that caused significant damage to roads and other public infrastructure within the constituency.

Speaking to residents, the MP blamed illegal sand winning for worsening the impact of flooding, saying the destruction of natural drainage systems and environmental degradation had left many communities more vulnerable to heavy rains. He urged residents not to shield offenders, stressing that law enforcement agencies would arrest anyone found engaging in the illegal activity.

Mr. George said protecting lives, property and the environment must take precedence over the interests of those violating environmental laws. He warned that no one should interfere if authorities begin arresting individuals involved in illegal sand winning.

The legislator also lamented the financial burden the recent floods have placed on the constituency, revealing that funds originally earmarked for development projects had to be redirected to provide relief for affected residents. According to him, the money spent on emergency assistance could have been used to construct ten six-unit classroom blocks for schools in the area.

He appealed to community members to support efforts to eliminate illegal sand winning by reporting offenders and cooperating with security agencies, saying collective action is essential to protecting the environment and preventing future disasters.
