Tensions between Ghana's two dominant political parties have escalated over proposed reforms to the country's electoral system. The Electoral Commission's proposal to introduce biometric voter verification at all polling stations has been welcomed by the NPP but rejected by the NDC, which claims the system is prone to manipulation.

NDC General Secretary Fifi Kwetey argued that any new technology introduced must undergo rigorous independent testing before being deployed in national elections. "We cannot experiment with our democracy. The stakes are too high," he said at a press conference in Accra.

The NPP's Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, countered that the current system is vulnerable to multiple voting and that biometric verification is the global standard. "Ghana should not be left behind. Our electoral integrity demands modern solutions," he stated.

The Electoral Commission has scheduled stakeholder consultations in all regional capitals over the next six weeks before a final decision is made. The reforms, if approved, would be implemented ahead of the 2028 general elections.
