NPP Communicator Backs Chairman Wontumi’s Imprisonment, Warns Against Protest
An outspoken communicator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has sparked controversy after openly endorsing the imprisonment of the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Speaking on the matter, the communicator declared that anyone who chooses to protest against Wontumi’s imprisonment should also be regarded as a “thief,” arguing that public officials accused of abusing their positions and misusing state resources must be held accountable.
“Any of you who would go and protest against the imprisonment of Chairman Wontumi, I know you are also a thief,” he stated.
According to him, he is pleased that individuals alleged to have exploited public office for personal gain are beginning to face the consequences of their actions. He maintained that Wontumi’s current predicament is justified, insisting that the Ashanti Regional Chairman acted primarily in his own interest rather than in the interest of ordinary Ghanaians.
The remarks have added to the ongoing debate surrounding Chairman Wontumi’s legal troubles, with supporters describing the case as politically motivated while critics argue that the rule of law must apply equally to everyone, regardless of political affiliation.
The communicator’s comments are expected to fuel further discussions within the NPP, as differing opinions continue to emerge over how the party should respond to Wontumi’s imprisonment and the broader issue of accountability for public officials.
