Afenyo-Markin Claims GoldBod Is Suffering Heavy Losses, Questions Government’s Economic Management
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has criticized the government’s management of the economy, alleging that the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) is incurring substantial financial losses despite being presented as a key initiative to strengthen the country’s gold sector.
Speaking on the state of the economy, Afenyo-Markin argued that the government’s much-publicized GoldBod project has failed to deliver the expected benefits. According to him, the initiative is already experiencing significant setbacks, raising concerns about its effectiveness and long-term sustainability.
“The day Ghanaians would open and lift the veil on GoldBod,” he remarked, suggesting that the full extent of the institution’s challenges has not yet been made public.
The Minority Leader further accused the government of failing to achieve meaningful economic growth, insisting that key sectors of the economy continue to struggle despite official assurances of improvement. He maintained that the administration’s economic policies have not translated into tangible benefits for ordinary Ghanaians.
Afenyo-Markin called for greater transparency and accountability in the management of GoldBod and other state initiatives, arguing that the public deserves to know how national resources are being utilized.
His remarks add to the ongoing political debate over the country’s economic performance, with the opposition continuing to challenge the government’s claims of recovery while urging stronger measures to improve livelihoods and restore confidence in the economy.
