Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Abeiku Santana, has sparked discussion after declaring that he would choose to remain in Ghana even if he were offered a monthly salary of $100,000 to relocate to the United States or the United Kingdom.
The veteran broadcaster and tourism official made the remarks in a video that has been circulating on social media, where he spoke about the opportunities he believes exist within Ghana.
According to Abeiku Santana, the challenge is not necessarily the absence of opportunities in the country but the failure of many Ghanaians to identify and take advantage of them.
He argued that several foreigners and expatriates who come to Ghana are able to recognise business opportunities that locals often overlook. While some Ghanaians concentrate on the difficulties confronting the country, he said foreigners sometimes see those same challenges as areas where they can create businesses and make a living.
Santana therefore encouraged Ghanaians to change their mindset towards problems and begin viewing them as potential opportunities for employment, investment and innovation.
He maintained that challenges should not always be regarded as reasons to complain, stressing that solving problems can itself become a source of economic opportunity.
His comments come at a time when many young Ghanaians continue to consider relocating abroad in search of better salaries, jobs and living conditions.
However, Santana’s position was that Ghana still has significant untapped potential and that citizens who are prepared to identify and pursue opportunities can build successful lives without necessarily leaving the country.
His $100,000 comparison has since generated reactions online, with some people debating whether the opportunities and quality of life in Ghana could genuinely outweigh such a substantial salary abroad.
