Accra, Ghana – Authorities have arrested Lucinda Naomi Otchere, a midwife and head of the maternity and labor ward at Trust Mother and Child Hospital in Osu, for her alleged role in a notorious child trafficking syndicate.
According to law enforcement sources, Otchere is accused of paying GH¢20,000 to a woman identified as Janet Larbie for the trafficking of a seven-year-old girl. She is also alleged to have paid an additional GH¢35,000 to facilitate the transfer of a five-year-old girl to a couple residing in Pokuase.
The arrest highlights ongoing concerns about child trafficking in the country and the involvement of trusted professionals in such illicit activities. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to uncover the full scope of the syndicate and bring all involved parties to justice.
The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to child exploitation to the relevant authorities.
