Manhyia South MP Alleges Sedinam Tamekloe Was Not Immediately Sent to Prison After Extradition
Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Hon. Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has alleged that former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedinam Tamekloe, was not immediately transferred to prison after being extradited from the United States to serve her prison sentence in Ghana.
According to the lawmaker, intelligence available to his side suggests that although Tamekloe arrived in Ghana following her extradition, she was not taken directly into prison custody as expected. He claimed that she was only transferred to prison yesterday, raising concerns about the handling of the case by the relevant authorities.
Speaking on the matter, Hon. Baffour Awuah questioned the circumstances surrounding the delay and called for transparency from state institutions responsible for enforcing the court’s judgment.
The former MASLOC CEO was convicted in absentia by an Accra High Court in connection with financial loss to the state during her tenure at the state-run microfinance agency. Following years of legal processes and international cooperation, she was recently extradited from the United States to Ghana to serve her sentence.
However, the Manhyia South MP alleges that the handling of her return has not followed the expected procedures. He further claimed that intelligence reports available to them indicate that Tamekloe could eventually be allowed to return home once public attention and pressure surrounding the matter diminish.
The allegations have sparked renewed public interest in the high-profile MASLOC case, with many Ghanaians demanding clarity on whether the former official has been treated in accordance with the law.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ghana Prisons Service and other relevant state authorities had not publicly responded to the claims made by the MP.
The development is expected to fuel further debate over accountability, transparency, and the enforcement of court judgments involving public officials accused of causing financial loss to the state.
