Drivers No Longer Required to Carry Physical Licence for Immediate Inspection

An officer has clarified that drivers in Ghana are no longer required to carry their original driver’s licence with them for immediate inspection when stopped by authorities.

According to the officer, motorists can instead provide their driver’s licence number immediately when requested by an authorised official.

The officer further explained that where the physical licence is required, the driver may be given the opportunity to produce the original licence within 24 hours.

The clarification is expected to provide greater understanding of the current requirements for motorists and help prevent unnecessary disputes during roadside checks.

Drivers are, however, encouraged to ensure that their licence details are valid and readily available whenever they are operating a vehicle.
