In a statement issued after the disaster, Dr. Bawumia described the flooding as a national crisis that demands collective action rather than political debate. He extended his sympathies to families who lost loved ones and to those whose homes, businesses and livelihoods were destroyed by the heavy rains.

He said the country’s priority should be to support victims and ensure swift relief reaches affected communities. According to him, the scale of the disaster requires cooperation among government agencies, private organisations, civil society groups and individuals.

Dr. Bawumia also called on the government to declare a state of emergency in the worst-hit areas to strengthen rescue and relief operations. He added that Ghana must invest in long-term flood prevention measures, including improved drainage systems, better urban planning and stricter enforcement of building regulations.

His remarks come as emergency teams continue rescue and recovery efforts in flood-affected communities, where heavy rains have caused extensive damage to homes, roads and businesses across the country.
