NPP Ashanti Regional Elections Hit by Court Injunction
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Executive Elections have been thrown into uncertainty after the High Court in Kumasi issued an interim injunction against the scheduled polls.
The court order prevents key NPP officials and the Ashanti Regional election authorities from organising, supervising, facilitating or conducting the elections, which were scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The injunction was granted after some party members challenged the electoral process, claiming they had been left out of the appropriate voter register for the regional elections.
Justice Osman Abdul-Hakeem issued the order following an application brought before the court on behalf of the affected party members.
The development comes as the NPP holds regional executive elections across the country as part of efforts to reorganise its structures and strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The Ashanti Region remains one of the NPP’s major political strongholds, making the court action a significant development in the party’s ongoing internal reorganisation.
The injunction could therefore delay the election process in the region until the concerns surrounding the voter register are addressed by the relevant authorities.
