Ghanaian Government Urges Russia to Stop Recruiting Ghanaians for Ukraine War
Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called on Russia to stop recruiting Ghanaian citizens to fight in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
According to the minister, 62 Ghanaians have been killed in the conflict, while 15 others remain missing. He said Ghana is engaging the Russian authorities over the recruitment of its citizens and is seeking measures to prevent more Ghanaians from being drawn into the war.
The development has raised concerns about the safety of Ghanaian nationals being recruited abroad, particularly those who may be lured by promises of employment or financial opportunities.
A separate development announced by Ablakwa is that Russia has doubled its annual scholarship allocation for Ghanaian students from 120 to 240, with priority areas including artificial intelligence, engineering, petroleum sciences and pharmaceuticals.
