Ghana has appealed to Russia to stop recruiting its citizens to fight in the Ukraine war, with 62 Ghanaians reportedly killed and 15 still missing. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says Ghana is engaging Russia over the issue while also announcing an increase in scholarships for Ghanaian students.
Russia has doubled its annual scholarship slots for Ghanaian students from 120 to 240. The fully funded opportunities will prioritise courses such as artificial intelligence, engineering, petroleum sciences and pharmaceuticals.
Trump’s latest remarks highlight ongoing disagreements between Washington and some NATO allies over defence spending and alliance commitments. The summit is taking place amid growing concerns over Russia’s military strategy and the continuing war in Ukraine.
Russia launched a large-scale overnight drone assault as NATO leaders met in Türkiye to discuss the war in Ukraine and European security. Air defence systems intercepted many of the drones, while the summit focused on continued support for Ukraine amid the escalating conflict.
