At least 11 people have lost their lives while 13 others sustained injuries following a serious road crash on the Ofankor–Pokuase stretch of the Accra–Kumasi Highway.
The incident occurred at about 4:00 am on Thursday, August 13, between the Ofankor Barrier and the John Teye area.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), seven vehicles were involved in the crash. They included two tipper trucks, two Sprinter buses, two saloon cars and a tricycle.
A total of 24 people were involved in the incident, with the 13 injured victims subsequently transported to Achimota Hospital for medical treatment.
Rescue teams from the Amasaman Fire Station and the GNFS headquarters were deployed to the scene to assist victims and clear the wreckage.
Authorities have also reported disruptions to traffic along the Ofankor–Pokuase stretch as emergency personnel worked at the scene.
The cause of the crash has not yet been established. The GNFS says investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
