The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, Salam Mustapha, has issued a strong warning to the government over what he describes as the continued unlawful arrest and detention of members of the opposition party. According to him, the situation is becoming increasingly unacceptable and could trigger a fierce political response if it is not addressed immediately.
Speaking passionately on the matter, Salam Mustapha cautioned that the NPP may be forced to mobilize its supporters and intensify pressure on the government if what he termed “political intimidation” persists. He stressed that the party would not remain silent while its members are allegedly targeted and harassed.
He specifically demanded the immediate release of Kwame Baffoe Abronye, popularly known as Abronye, whose detention has sparked outrage among party supporters. Mustapha described Abronye’s arrest as unjust and politically motivated, calling on authorities to respect due process and the rule of law.
The comments are likely to heighten political tensions between the ruling administration and the opposition, as concerns grow over the state of democratic freedoms and political tolerance in Ghana. Observers say how authorities respond in the coming days could significantly shape the country’s political atmosphere.
