Mahama Inaugurates Committee to Oversee GH¢1bn Bawku Revitalisation Fund
President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a five-member committee to oversee the implementation of the GH¢1 billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund, aimed at supporting infrastructure and development projects in Bawku and surrounding areas.
The committee is chaired by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson. Other members include Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga, Upper East Regional Minister Donatus Akamugri Atanga, the Chief of Tempane, Cletus Abugri, and Garu MP Dr Thomas Winsum Anabah.
President Mahama said the allocation has been secured and that the improving security situation in Bawku provides an opportunity for government to restart development initiatives that were disrupted by the prolonged conflict.
The fund is expected to support infrastructure and other priority interventions considered necessary for Bawku and its surrounding communities. The President said government’s broader objective is to restore Bawku’s position as an important commercial centre in Ghana.
The initiative follows the presentation of the Otumfuo Mediation Committee’s report in December 2025. Mahama said the relative calm now prevailing in the area creates the conditions needed to move from peace efforts to reconstruction and development.
