The Appointments Committee of Parliament is today, Thursday, August 27, vetting five nominees submitted by President John Dramani Mahama for ministerial and judicial positions.
Among those appearing before the committee are Majority Leader and Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga, nominated as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, nominated to head the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology.
The two nominees are expected to answer questions about their professional backgrounds, experience, policy priorities and plans for the ministries they have been nominated to lead. Their responses will form part of the committee’s assessment of their suitability for the proposed positions.
Three other nominees — Justice Sophia Bernasko-Essah, Justice Edward Amoako Asante and legal practitioner Anthony Forson Jnr — are also scheduled to face the committee in connection with their nominations to the Supreme Court.
The vetting is an important stage in the parliamentary approval process, with the committee expected to prepare reports on the nominees before the nominations proceed to the full House for consideration.
