The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), working together with personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, has intensified the fight against illegal mining with a joint operation along the River Offin and parts of the Upper Denkyira West District.
The operation targeted illegal mining sites believed to be contributing to the degradation of the environment and pollution of water bodies in the affected areas.
During the exercise, security and anti-illegal mining personnel reportedly seized several excavators and destroyed mining equipment found at the sites. The action forms part of broader government measures to clamp down on galamsey activities across the country.
The River Offin and other water bodies have come under increasing pressure from illegal mining, with concerns over the impact of mining activities on water quality, farmlands and surrounding ecosystems.
Authorities say operations of this nature will continue as the government steps up efforts to tackle illegal mining, protect the country’s natural resources and restore degraded water bodies for future generations.
