Ghanaian actor Strika, who gained recognition for his role in the internationally acclaimed film Beasts of No Nation, has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being convicted by an Accra court.
The actor was reportedly found guilty of cutting and removing metal railings from the Kwashieman footbridge, allegedly with the intention of selling them as scrap metal.
The incident has sparked concern over the increasing theft and destruction of public infrastructure, particularly facilities designed to ensure the safety of pedestrians.
The court’s decision reflects the seriousness with which authorities are treating the unlawful removal of public property. Metal railings and other infrastructure are installed to protect road users and pedestrians, and their removal can expose members of the public to significant risks.
Strika, whose performance in Beasts of No Nation brought him recognition beyond Ghana, will now serve the seven-year custodial sentence following his conviction.
