Akpaloo Sues EOCO Over Alleged Unlawful Arrest and Rights Violations
Percival Kofi Akpaloo, founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has initiated legal action against the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), alleging unlawful arrest and violations of his constitutional rights.
According to Akpaloo, he has filed a lawsuit at the Kumasi High Court seeking legal redress after what he describes as an unjustified encounter with the state investigative agency. Speaking on the matter, he stated that the government did not provide him with any financial support or compensation, prompting his decision to pursue the case through the courts.
“The government didn’t give me any money, therefore I have filed a lawsuit against EOCO,” Akpaloo said while explaining the reasons behind his legal action.
The lawsuit is expected to challenge the circumstances surrounding his arrest and detention, with Akpaloo arguing that his fundamental human rights were infringed upon during the process. He is reportedly seeking compensation and other remedies from the court.
The development adds a new chapter to the ongoing discussions surrounding the powers of state investigative institutions and the protection of citizens’ constitutional rights. Legal observers are expected to closely monitor the case as it progresses through the judicial system.
EOCO has yet to publicly respond to the lawsuit or the allegations made by Akpaloo.
The Kumasi High Court is expected to hear the matter in the coming weeks as both parties prepare to present their arguments before the court.
