A 39-year-old teacher at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School (NCASS), identified as Eric Buernortey Apaflo, has been arrested by police for allegedly assaulting an 18-year-old female student in an incident that has sparked widespread public reaction following the circulation of a viral video.

According to police reports, the suspect, who also serves as a hostel caretaker at the school, was arrested on Sunday, June 8, 2026, after authorities received complaints regarding the alleged assault.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred during a confrontation between the teacher, the female student—identified as Patience Chibu—and a group of male students over alleged misconduct at the hostel. Police say the situation escalated during the exchange, resulting in the alleged physical assault of the student.

The incident reportedly angered some students, who responded by pelting the teacher with stones. Reports further indicate that some students invited youth from the Nyinahin community to the hostel in an attempt to attack the suspect.

Police officers swiftly intervened to prevent the situation from escalating further and restored calm on the school premises.
