A member of New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s National Communications Team, Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, has sparked widespread outrage after making a controversial and incendiary statement directed at the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). Speaking during a political discussion, Gyewu-Appiah warned that if the NDC continues to “arrest, intimidate, or threaten” members of the NPP, his party’s supporters would retaliate by attacking the NDC’s headquarters.
The explosive remark has triggered intense public backlash, with many Ghanaians condemning the statement as reckless, dangerous, and capable of escalating political tensions in the country. Critics argue that such inflammatory rhetoric from senior political figures undermines Ghana’s democratic stability and could incite violence among party supporters.
Political observers and civil society groups have since called on leaders of both major parties to promote peace and responsible political discourse, especially as the country continues to navigate a highly polarized political climate. Many are urging the NPP leadership to publicly address the comment and distance itself from any form of political violence.
The latest controversy adds to growing concerns over heated political rhetoric in Ghana, with analysts warning that repeated threats and provocative statements from party communicators could deepen divisions and threaten national unity if left unchecked.
