The National Democratic Congress has officially renamed its national headquarters the Jerry John Rawlings House in honour of its founder, Jerry John Rawlings.
The announcement was made on Sunday, June 22, 2026, by the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, during a ceremony attended by party executives, supporters, and members of the Rawlings family.
Declaring the change official, Asiedu Nketia stated: “On this 22nd day of June 2026, the headquarters of the National Democratic Congress is declared the Jerry John Rawlings House.”
The renaming is widely seen as a symbolic gesture to honour Rawlings’ enduring legacy and his pivotal role in the establishment and growth of the NDC. Rawlings, who founded the party in 1992, remains one of the most influential political figures in Ghana’s democratic history.
Party leaders described the move as a tribute to his vision, leadership, and contributions to Ghana’s political landscape. They noted that the new name will serve as a lasting reminder of the ideals and principles upon which the NDC was built.
The late former president led Ghana for nearly two decades, first as a military leader and later as a democratically elected president. Even after leaving office, he remained a significant voice in national affairs until his passing in 2020.
Supporters at the event welcomed the decision, describing it as a fitting honour for a man whose political influence helped shape modern Ghanaian politics. The newly named Jerry John Rawlings House is expected to stand as a symbol of the party’s history and its commitment to preserving the legacy of its founder.
