British actor Micheal Ward, best known for his role in the television series Top Boy, has denied allegations that he raped a woman in a car after they met at a nightclub in east London. The claims were presented before Snaresbrook Crown Court as his trial continues.
According to the prosecution, the alleged incident occurred in January 2023 after Ward and the complainant attended a nightclub and later an afterparty. Prosecutors allege that Ward sexually assaulted the woman in a parked vehicle after the two left the gathering together.
Ward, 28, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration and one count of sexual assault. Giving evidence in court, he denied all the allegations and maintained that the sexual encounter was entirely consensual. He told the jury that both parties willingly participated and that he believed there was mutual consent throughout the encounter.
The complainant, whose identity is protected under UK law, previously testified that she did not consent to the sexual acts and told the court she felt she had no choice during the encounter.
The trial is ongoing, and no verdict has been reached. The court will continue hearing evidence from both the prosecution and the defence before reaching a decision.
