Ghanaian dancehall musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has expressed his continued admiration for President John Dramani Mahama’s political ideology while distancing himself from the performance of some members of the President’s administration.
According to Shatta Wale, his support for President Mahama should not be interpreted as an endorsement of all the officials serving under the current government. He indicated that while he appreciates the President’s vision and approach to governance, he remains dissatisfied with the way some of his appointees are handling their responsibilities.
The musician is also reported to have raised concerns over an outstanding payment he claims is owed to him by the Sports Ministry. Shatta Wale alleges that he is yet to receive GH¢5 million for promotional work he undertook in connection with the FIFA World Cup.
His claim comes at a time when the government and private-sector stakeholders have intensified efforts to support Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The government has secured broadcasting rights for the tournament, while various organisations have contributed funds towards the Black Stars’ campaign.
Shatta Wale has previously demonstrated his willingness to support the national team, including pledging US$100,000 towards Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign. His latest comments therefore add another dimension to the ongoing conversation about how artists and other personalities involved in sports-related promotional activities are compensated.
The musician’s remarks are likely to generate discussion about accountability within government institutions, particularly regarding payments for services rendered.
