President John Dramani Mahama has cautioned religious leaders against making statements that could inflame tensions, promote hatred or trigger violence among people of different faiths.

Speaking on Friday, August 21, 2026, President Mahama stressed the importance of protecting Ghana’s long-standing tradition of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

He urged religious leaders to use their influence responsibly, particularly at a time when comments made by prominent figures can quickly spread and create tension within communities.

The President also called on religious institutions to continue serving as voices of peace and moral guidance in the country. He emphasised that Ghana’s religious diversity should remain a source of strength rather than become a basis for division.

President Mahama’s remarks come as he encourages religious leaders to contribute positively to national development while avoiding rhetoric capable of undermining Ghana’s peaceful social environment.
