Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has called for future public transport buses to be better tailored to the everyday realities and cultural needs of Ghanaians, emphasizing the importance of practicality in national transport planning.
The Vice President made the remarks during an inspection of newly delivered buses for Metro Mass Transit, where she observed that the vehicles lacked adequate luggage space—an important feature for many Ghanaian commuters, particularly market women and traders who often travel with goods.
According to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, transportation systems in Ghana must reflect the lifestyles and daily activities of the people they are meant to serve. She urged the Ministry of Transport (Ghana) to ensure that future procurements prioritize functionality and convenience, especially for passengers who rely heavily on public transport for business and trade.
Her comments have sparked broader discussions about the need for more inclusive transport policies in Ghana, with many citizens agreeing that public infrastructure should be designed with local realities in mind to better serve the population.
