Ghana and Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams has announced his decision to retire from international football at the age of 32, bringing his four-year journey with the Black Stars to an end.
Williams, who switched his international allegiance to Ghana in 2022, went on to make 28 appearances for the national team. He represented the country at two FIFA World Cup tournaments and also featured at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Although his time with the Black Stars produced just two goals, Williams remained part of the national setup during a period that saw Ghana go through several changes and challenges.
The Athletic Bilbao attacker has now decided to close that chapter of his career. His decision means Ghana will no longer have the services of the Spain-born forward at international level as the Black Stars prepare for their next generation of players.
Williams has expressed appreciation for the opportunity to wear Ghana’s colours, describing his time with the national team as a meaningful part of his football journey.
His international retirement is expected to generate mixed reactions among Ghanaian football fans, with some praising his commitment to the country while others may question whether he could have contributed more to the Black Stars.
