Health Minister Says Uncapping NHIL Has Strengthened Funding for Ghana’s Health Sector
Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has underscored the positive impact of the government’s decision to uncap the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL), describing the move as a major boost to funding for Ghana’s health sector.
According to the Minister, the uncapping of the NHIL has significantly improved the financial capacity of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), enabling the government to better support healthcare delivery across the country. He noted that the additional resources are helping to ensure the timely payment of claims, improve access to quality healthcare, and strengthen the overall health system.
Hon. Akandoh explained that the increased funding will enhance the availability of essential medicines, improve health infrastructure, and support the delivery of quality medical services to Ghanaians.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector through sustainable financing and strategic investments aimed at achieving universal health coverage.
The Health Minister added that the administration remains focused on implementing policies that will make healthcare more accessible, affordable, and efficient for all citizens, emphasizing that the uncapping of the NHIL is already delivering tangible benefits for patients and healthcare providers nationwide.
