Government Increases Daily Feeding Grant for Special Needs Students from GH¢8 to GH¢15

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced an increase in the daily feeding grant for students in special needs schools across the country from GH¢8 to GH¢15, effective immediately.

According to the Minister, the decision forms part of the government’s commitment to improving the living and learning conditions of students with disabilities by ensuring they receive better nutrition and quality care while in school.

Hon. Haruna Iddrisu explained that the enhanced feeding grant is expected to provide schools with additional resources to prepare healthier and more nutritious meals for students. He noted that proper nutrition plays a vital role in supporting the physical, mental, and academic development of learners, particularly those with special needs who often require specialized care.

He further emphasized that the increase reflects the government’s broader agenda of promoting inclusive education and strengthening support systems for students with disabilities. The Minister expressed confidence that the intervention will improve students’ overall welfare, create a more conducive learning environment, and enable them to reach their full potential.

The announcement has been welcomed as a positive step toward addressing the needs of special education institutions, with many stakeholders expected to see the increment as a timely measure to ease the rising cost of providing quality meals and care for students.
