The Ghana Education Service (GES) has suspended the salary of an interdicted teacher of Bole Senior High School in the Savannah Region over allegations of sexual misconduct involving a student.
According to GES, the decision was taken after the teacher allegedly absconded from duty following the emergence of the allegations. The Service has since reported the matter to the Ghana Police Service to facilitate his arrest and assist with ongoing investigations.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Director-General of GES, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, said the teacher had already been interdicted before his salary was suspended because he failed to report to work.
He explained that GES is working closely with the police to ensure the suspect is apprehended to face both criminal prosecution and internal disciplinary proceedings if found culpable.
The alleged misconduct came to light after a video widely circulated on social media, prompting GES to immediately interdict the teacher to allow for investigations.
The Service reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on sexual misconduct involving teachers and students, stressing that it remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of learners across the country. It also assured the public that anyone found guilty of violating professional and ethical standards would face the appropriate sanctions under the law.
The case has generated widespread public concern, with many Ghanaians calling for swift justice and stronger measures to protect students within educational institutions.
