The Ministry of Finance has released GH¢350 million from the Contingency Fund to support emergency flood relief efforts and long-term mitigation measures following the recent floods that affected parts of the country.

According to the Ministry, the funds were disbursed following a directive from President John Dramani Mahama to urgently mobilise resources to support victims and strengthen interventions aimed at reducing future flooding.

The allocation was processed in line with constitutional procedures, including approval by Parliament through the Finance Committee before the withdrawal from the Contingency Fund. Officials say the Controller and Accountant-General subsequently transferred the full amount into a dedicated National Disaster Management Committee (NDMC) account at the Bank of Ghana.

Of the total GH¢350 million, GH¢200 million has been set aside for immediate relief support for affected households and communities, while GH¢150 million will go into flood mitigation projects designed to reduce the recurrence and impact of flooding in vulnerable areas.

Government says the intervention forms part of a broader National Emergency Flood Response Programme aimed at providing both immediate assistance and long-term infrastructure solutions to the country’s recurring flood challenges.

Officials have also assured that the funds will be strictly managed to ensure accountability and effective delivery of relief items and mitigation works.
