Amid a surge in xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals in South Africa, nearly 600 more Ghanaian citizens have gathered at the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria to register for evacuation. The move comes as the Ghanaian government ramps up efforts to ensure the safe return of its nationals.
Officials at the High Commission confirmed that registration for evacuation is ongoing, emphasizing that the process is aimed at protecting Ghanaians from further harm. These latest arrivals add to the growing number of Ghanaians seeking to leave South Africa in response to escalating violence and harassment.
Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has pledged to coordinate with authorities in South Africa and airlines to expedite safe repatriation. Citizens are urged to remain calm and comply with the registration procedures to facilitate a smooth evacuation process.
As tensions continue, the Ghanaian government remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of its nationals abroad while appealing to South African authorities to enhance security measures for foreign residents.
