The Ghana Police Service has deployed more than 500 officers across key locations in the Greater Accra Region to provide security and support for the two-day National General Cleaning Exercise declared by President John Dramani Mahama following the recent devastating floods.
According to the Accra Regional Police Command, the deployment is intended to ensure public safety, maintain law and order, manage traffic and assist residents participating in the nationwide sanitation campaign. Officers will be stationed at strategic locations throughout the region during the exercise.
The National General Cleaning Exercise, scheduled for Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, forms part of government’s post-flood response aimed at clearing choked drains, removing waste and reducing the risk of future flooding in affected communities.
The Police Service has urged the public to cooperate with security personnel and actively participate in the exercise, describing environmental cleanliness as a shared national responsibility. Authorities also appealed to motorists to obey traffic directions and any temporary road management measures that may be introduced during the clean-up.
Government has called on residents, businesses, local assemblies, civil society organisations and community groups to join the exercise as part of efforts to improve sanitation and build more resilient communities after the recent floods.
