Ghana to Ban Importation of Used Vehicles Over 15 Years From October
The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) is set to introduce a new restriction that will prevent the importation of used vehicles that are more than 15 years old into the country.
The new measure is expected to take effect from October 1, 2026, as part of efforts to improve vehicle standards and address concerns surrounding the condition and safety of older vehicles entering Ghana.
Under the new requirement, vehicles exceeding the 15-year age limit will no longer be allowed to enter the Ghanaian market.
The policy is expected to affect importers and businesses that rely heavily on the trade in second-hand vehicles, particularly those bringing older cars into the country.
Authorities say the move forms part of broader efforts to ensure that vehicles imported into Ghana meet required safety and quality standards.
The announcement could also influence the prices and availability of used vehicles, as importers may have to shift towards relatively newer models to comply with the regulation.
The GSA’s new directive is therefore likely to generate significant discussion among vehicle importers, dealers and consumers ahead of its implementation in October.
